Wine Calculator — Bottles for a Party
Work from the people likely to drink wine and the pour you intend to serve, rather than a fixed red/white/rosé split.
Formula
Glasses = wine drinkers × hours × glasses per hour × contingency. Bottle demand then uses the pour and bottle sizes you enter.
Worked example
Twenty wine drinkers over four hours at 0.8 glasses/hour gives 64 glasses. With 10% extra that becomes 70.4 glasses. At 125ml per glass and 750ml bottles, the purchase estimate rounds up to 12 bottles.
Choose the wine mix after the quantity
Do not let a default red/white/rosé ratio dictate what your guests want. Work out total wine first, then split the bottles using what you know about the crowd, menu, weather and occasion.
