Garden Party Weather Backup Plan
A backup plan is not “hope it stays dry”. Decide what changes, when you decide, and how guests will know.
1. Set a decision point
Choose when you will make the call based on the forecast and setup requirements. Large hired equipment may force an earlier decision than a simple family barbecue.
2. Test the indoor/covered capacity
Can every guest actually fit under the fallback shelter with food, seating and safe movement? If not, the backup is incomplete.
3. Rain
Protect entrances, electrical equipment, seating and food service. Think about muddy routes and where wet coats/umbrellas go.
4. Wind
Light decorations, table coverings and temporary structures can behave differently in wind. Follow supplier instructions for marquees/gazebos and do not improvise unsafe anchoring.
5. Heat and sun
Provide shade, water and food-safe cold storage. If shade is limited, alter the layout or timing rather than relying on guests to cope.
6. Communicate changes simply
If the address, entrance, start time or clothing advice changes, send one clear update rather than scattering details across several messages.
