Practical party planning guide

Christmas Party Planning

Christmas parties often bundle several mini-projects together: food, drinks, gifts, entertainment and travel. Keep them as separate planning lines so the festive theme does not hide the real workload or spend.

Choose the format first

Dinner, drinks party, family gathering, work social and buffet all create different quantities and timelines. Pick the format before buying decorations or setting a generic festive menu.

Guest list and dietary needs

Christmas menus can be less flexible once catering is booked. Ask about allergies and dietary requirements early enough to arrange suitable options.

Gifts and Secret Santa

If gifts are part of the event, set an explicit budget and participation rule. Do not let gift spending disappear inside the food or decoration budget.

Food and drinks

Use the core food, drinks and ice tools rather than duplicating festive versions of the same maths.

Travel and finish

December travel, weather and alcohol can make the homeward journey part of the plan. Include taxi/public transport/driver arrangements where relevant.
