Baby Shower Planning Checklist
Start with the parent-to-be's preferences and comfort. A baby shower can include gifts, games and a theme, but none of those elements needs to become compulsory.
1. Agree the format and host
Decide who is organising, what the parent-to-be actually wants and whether the event is a relaxed afternoon, meal, garden gathering or more structured celebration.
2. Build the guest list and budget together
Guest count affects venue, food, seating and cost. Decide whether partners, children or wider family are included rather than leaving the invitation ambiguous.
3. Choose a comfortable time and place
Travel, seating, toilets, accessibility and a sensible event duration can matter more than decorative detail. If the shower is later in pregnancy, minimise unnecessary logistical strain on the parent-to-be.
4. Invitations and gift information
State the date, start/finish time, location and RSVP clearly. If there is a registry, gift preference or no-gifts request, communicate it in a way that suits the host and guests rather than assuming gifts are mandatory.
5. Food and dietary needs
Ask about allergies and dietary needs early. Plan food from the actual guest count and serving style rather than automatically copying a themed menu.
6. Games and activities
Choose games only if the guest of honour will enjoy them. Alternatives include advice cards, photo activities, decorating items, conversation-led time or no organised games at all.
7. Keep the timeline flexible
Allow time for arrival, food, any activities and gifts if gifts are being opened during the event. Do not overfill the schedule.
