Cake Serving Calculator

Calculate the number of servings you need first, then use the baker or cake-maker’s portion guide to choose the actual cake size.

Why we calculate servings rather than pretend cake diameter is universal

Cake yield changes with shape, height, cutting pattern and intended slice size. A simple “10-inch cake always feeds X” rule can therefore be misleading. This tool calculates the serving target; match that target to the portion chart for the specific cake.

Worked example

For 30 guests, 90% cake take-up gives 27 expected servings. Adding 10% contingency produces 29.7, so plan for at least 30 servings.

When to increase the serving target

Increase it if cake is the main dessert, you want leftovers, or guests are likely to take generous slices. Reduce expected take-up if several substantial desserts are also being served.

How to read this estimate

The calculator separates your inputs from editable planning assumptions. Treat the result as a starting quantity, then adjust it for the real guest mix, product size, venue or serving style. See how our calculators work.
